Prismo is a character that I’ve come to really enjoy, so I’m happy they managed to save him.įinal Grade: “The resurrection of Prismo, several references to past episodes, and a mind-melding plot make this a fantastic episode.THIS CARDIGAN IS ESTIMATED TO SHIP IN 3 MONTHS BUT MAY TAKE LONGER. The intricate and (to borrow a term from another fandom) “timey-wimey” nature of his rebirth, however, was well structured. I could see that argument holding merit if the manner of his resurrection had been poorly written. I’ve seen a few people complaining on the Internet that it was a “cop out” that Prismo came back. So the ending of “Breezy” must have been some sort of prophecy? Not only in this episode did Finn look at his palm and see a weird thorn, the sword that the vision of Princess Bubblegum offered to Finn is actualized in this episode. Adventure Time Style Original Portrait, Adventure Time Custom Family Painting, Digital Family Portrait, Cartoon Portrait, Pet Lovers Gift. But perhaps the most important reference was one made to “Breezy”, the super-controversial episode that aired earlier this season. It was fascinating seeing all the connections being made between episodes. You’ll just have to watch it to fully understand! In the end, an alternate-reality Jake is left sleeping forever, bringing Prismo back from the dead, and an alternate reality Finn is turned into a cool Finn-sword.ĭid that make sense? No? That’s OK, it was a whirlwind. There, he meets past Prismo, who explains that these complex time paradoxes are part of an elaborate plan to resurrect himself. This recording convinces Jake to fall asleep.īack in Ooo, Finn realizes that he needs to play along with these phantom Jakes for everything to go smoothly, eventually activating a portal to Prismo’s dimension. This version of Jake’s wish-granting friend is actually a recording, made by the actual Prismo in case he ever died. Meanwhile, Jake is seemingly transported to Prismo’s dimension, where he meets a past version of Prismo. And while it didn’t exactly feature episode-based time travel, the creatively clip-showy nature of the phantom Jake’s recalled my “Time Sandwich” prediction and had me grinning ear to ear. Suffice it to say, “Time Sandwich” defied my expectations, and I quickly forgot about my erroneous head-canon.

I thought it would be interesting to have the old animation mixed with the new animation, creating a dissonant yet complimentary final creation.

I had this head-canon that the episode would see Finn and Jake travel back through past episodes, somewhat akin to the Family Guy episode “Back to the Pilot”. Most of us were positive that the episode would involve time travel.

Before the airing of the season five episode “Time Sandwich”, the Adventure Time fan sites were a-flutter with idle speculation. Something strange follows: Jake begins repeating things he had done in previous episodes (including burying his Everything Burrito like in “Conquest of Cuteness”, dancing like in “Power Animal”, talking as if Lady Rainicorn is there as in “The Pit”, singing “Bacon Pancakes” from “Burning Low”, talking about death like in “The New Frontier”, asking Finn to wrestle him like in “Crystals Have Power”, and finally, re-enacting the memorial service) before seemingly exploding. Going into this episode, I had no idea what to expect-other than it would deal in some manner with the deceased Wish-Master-but I can say that “Is That You?” exceeded any iota of a prediction that I had.Īt the start of the episode, Finn and Jake hold a memorial service for Prismo, which includes silly chanting and culminates with Jake eating the last of Prismo’s pickles. He was such a grand character, and it was truly distressing watching him get turned to ash by the Lich.
